DAY 1 - Introduction

  • Theoretical notions: definition, formation, extraction, and distribution
  • The 4 Cs: carat weight, color, clarity and cut
  • Clarity grading of diamonds, using the microscope and the loupe

DAY 2 - Practice: Clarity Grading

  • Color grading of diamonds: colorless to yellow

DAY 3 - Analysis of the make of a diamond

  • Part I: the proportions of the round brilliant cut
  • Part II: elementary knowledge of fancy cuts
Day 4 - Diamond Fashioning
  • The different steps in diamond fashioning from the rough to the finished product - cleavage, sawing, polishing, bruting

DAY 5 - Practice of clarity, color and proportions

  • Analysis of the polish and symmetry of round brilliants

DAY 6 - Diamond simulants: Methods of identification

  • Practice

DAY 7 - Analysis of the proportions of fancy shapes
